Websites

The group of entities, herein referred to as IIT Madras Alumni, consists of IITMAANA and IITMAANA Chapters. The websites of IIT Madras Alumni herein referred to as the Websites, include iitmadras.org and iitmaana.org.

The Websites are created and maintained by IIT Madras Alumni to disseminate information about the activities and programs of IIT Madras Alumni to individuals and the alumni communities over the Internet. Access to and use of the Websites is subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein and all applicable laws. These terms and conditions may be revised or updated by IIT Madras Alumni.

Definitions and Abbreviations

1. User(s): A person or entity using the Websites.
2. Registered User(s): A person or entity that is registered with a user account on at least one of the Websites.
3. Registered Member(s): A Register User who qualifies for at least one of the membership types (listed below).
4. User Data: Personal information, in the Websites, about Users.
5. Group(s): A group, of Registered Users, recognized by IIT Madras Alumni.
6. Member Directory: A directory of people and entities who are eligible to become Registered Users.
7. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the terms alumni and alumnus are used in the Websites in a gender-neutral sense.

Website Use

Users agree not to post, upload, or transmit to the Websites material that is fraudulent, discourteous, obscene, offensive, abusive; defames, abuses, harasses or threatens others; contains any viruses, or harmful components intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information, advocates or encourages any illegal activity; violates the privacy of individuals, including other Users.

IIT Madras Alumni shall determine User compliance with the above guidelines and reserves the right to delete from the Websites without prior notice any material that it deems to be non-complying or otherwise objectionable for any reason. IIT Madras Alumni may take any action with respect to material it believes may create liability for IIT Madras Alumni or any third parties. IIT Madras Alumni reserves the right to determine, in its sole discretion, what material is published on the Websites.

Usernames and Passwords: Users are solely responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any username and password information that they have been given to use on the Websites. Users may not share these with or transfer them to any third parties. Users must notify IIT Madras Alumni immediately of any unauthorized use of a username or any other breach of security regarding the Websites. IIT Madras Alumni will never ask for username and password information and Users should not provide them to anyone seeking such information.

Member Directory: The Member Directory, where available, is provided, with the express understanding that the information will not be used for any commercial or philanthropic purpose not directly connected with or approved by IIT Madras Alumni, nor will copies be made, nor will the original information or facsimile be given, lent, or sold to any other individual or entity.

Privacy Statement

IIT Madras Alumni policy is to collect only that information about Users which is expressly provided and which will allow IIT Madras Alumni to better serve the needs of Users. Personal information is not shared, rented or sold outside IIT Madras Alumni unless expressly stated on the web page on which the information is gathered. Use of the Websites, may be monitored to help improve site content development, however tracking is in aggregate only, and is not associated by individual User or IP address. Aggregate, non-personally identifying information may be both used internally and shared externally.

User Data and Member Directory are considered IIT Madras Alumni confidential information, unless otherwise designated as public. User Data and Member Directory data includes, but is not limited to all biographical data: name, home/office address, telephone/fax numbers, and email address. User Data and Member Directory are not shared, rented or sold outside IIT Madras Alumni unless expressly stated on the web page on which the information is gathered.

Credit Card and Bank account numbers are not stored or saved on the Websites, except for the last four digits of the credit card number or the bank account number for the purpose of tracking and re-billing orders.

Registered Users

Membership Types:

1. Graduate Alumni Member(s): Any person who has been awarded a degree by IIT Madras or has completed one full year of study and research under direct and exclusive supervision of a member of IIT Madras faculty.
2. Faculty Alumni Member(s): Any person who has completed one full year as IIT Madras faculty.
3. Alumni Member(s): Any person who is eligible to be a Graduate Alumni Member or a Faculty Alumni Member.
4. Faculty Member(s): Any person who has completed one full year as IIT Madras faculty and is a current IIT Madras faculty.
5. Associate Member(s): Any person who is invited and approved by the IIT Madras Alumni to be a Registered User.

Eligibility: Any person who meets the conditions for at least one of the Membership Types listed above, and agrees to the terms and conditions as set forth herein, is eligible to become a Registered Member.

Termination: A Registered User will cease to be a Registered User when the Registered User de-registers on one of the Websites or is removed by IIT Madras Alumni. IIT Madras Alumni may terminate Registered User's access to the site immediately without notice if the Registered User: breaches the terms and conditions; infringes the intellectual property rights of a third party; uploads and/or transmits any material to the Websites that violates any applicable laws or rights of any third party, and/or if IIT Madras Alumni is unable to verify or authenticate any information that the Registered User provides.

IIT Madras Alumni Groups

Membership: IIT Madras Alumni can set the Group membership to be either automatic based on some criterion or by Registered User's choice.

Chapter Group: A Group of Registered Users who all reside in a geographical region that is determined by IIT Madras Alumni. Membership is by choice and based on previously specified criterion. A Registered User can belong to no more than one Chapter Group at any given point in time.

Class Group: A Group of Registered Users who all share a common graduation year at IIT Madras. Membership is automatic and based on previously specified criterion. A Registered User can belong to more than one Class Group.

IIT Madras Alumni Organizations

IITMAANA: An independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Texas, USA. All Registered Users who reside in North America and are Alumni Members as defined above are automatically members of IITMAANA. IITMAANA Member(s): A Registered User who is a member of IITMAANA. IITMAANA Members agree to abide by IITMAANA Articles of Incorporation and IITMAANA Constitution. IITMAANA Members who are also an Alumni Member are eligible to participate in IITMAANA Executive Board elections as per IITMAANA Constitution.

IITMAANA Chapter: A Chapter Group formed in accordance with the definition of an IITMAANA Chapter as per IITMAANA Constitution. Members of the Chapter Group must be IITMAANA Members. Membership is by choice and based on previously specified criteria.

Resolution

The decision of IIT Madras Alumni shall be final and binding in all matters related to the Websites, Registered Users membership, and User Data.
