Every year IIT Madras recognises its alumni who have excelled in their professions and made outstanding contributions. These alumni are presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
The Director of IIT Madras, Prof. M.S. Ananth announced the Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2006 for six alumni at the 57th Republic Day on 26th January of 2006.

Dr. Krithi Ramamritham (1976 BT EE, 1978 MT CS) is a Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and the Head of Kanwal Rekhi School of IT, IIT Bombay, Mumbai. He received his B.Tech. in Electrical Engg. and M.Tech. in Computer Sciene Engg. from IIT Madras in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He was named Fellow of the IEEE, in 1998, Fellow of the ACM, in 2001, and Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engg., in 2005. |

Dr. Murali Sastry (1982 MSc PH, 1987 PhD PH) is the Chief Scientist at Tata Chemicals Ltd., Mumbai. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in Physics from IIT Madras in 1982 and 1987 respectively. He was also awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemistry in 2003 and the NCL Research Foundation Scientist of the Year Award in 2000. |

Dr. T.V. RajanBabu (1971 MSc CY) is a Professor of Chemistry at Ohio State University, USA. He received his M.Sc. in Chemistry from IIT Madras in 1971. He received a PhD in Chemistry from Ohio State University (OSU) in 1978, and returned to OSU as Professor of Chemistry in 1995. |

Sunil Kumar (1971 BT ME) is the President and CEO of International Speciality Products (ISP) Inc, USA. He received his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engg from IIT Madras in 1971 and an an MBA from the University of Louisiana. He was recently named as 2005 Speciality Chemicals CEO of the Year by Frost & Sullivan. |
