Every year IIT Madras recognises its alumni who have excelled in their professions and made outstanding contributions. These alumni are presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA).
At a special function held on July 26, 2006, two awardees - Krishna Kolluri and Dr. Murali Sastry - were presented the DAA by IIT Madras Director, Prof. Ananth.
Earlier, at the Institute Day celebrations on April 17th of 2006, and at separate functions on April 26th and May 26th of 2006, five awardees - Dr. A. Jayakrishnan, Dr. Krithi Ramamritham, Dr. G. Sundararajan, Dr. Kris Venkat and Sunil Kumar - were presented the DAA (Report & Pictures).
The DAA 2005 award for Krishna Kolluri (1986 BT ME) was announced by Prof. Ananth at the XLII Convocation on July 29th of 2005, in recognition of his outstanding professional accomplishments and entrepreneurial excellence.
Krishna 'Kittu' Kolluri is a General Partner
focusing on information technology investments at New Enterprise Associates (NEA), USA.
He also serves on the boards of Ring Three Technologies,
Port Authority Technologies, SnapTell, and Determina.
Krishna received a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engg. from IIT Madras in 1986, and an Masters degree in Operational Research from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1988.
Prof. S. Srinivasa Murthy, Head of the Dept. of Mechanical Engg., read the citation and Prof. Ananth presented the award to Krishna Kolluri at a special function held at IIT Madras on July 26th of 2006. Krishna is on the left in the picture.
The DAA 2006 award for Dr. Murali Sastry (1982 MSc PY, 1987 PhD PY) was announced by Prof. Ananth at the 57th Republic Day celebrations on January 26th of 2006, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Dr. Sastry is the Chief Scientist, Tata Chemicals Ltd., Mumbai.
He had earlier served as a Senior Scientist at National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune.
He is an internationally recognized nanotechnologist
and received several awards including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemistry in 2003.
Dr. Sastry received an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics from IIT Madras in 1982 and 1987 respectively.
